Dental Stone Cleaning

How is Dental Stone Formed?

The formation of dental tartar is more common in cases where oral hygiene is inadequate. Plaque constantly accumulates on the teeth, forming a sticky film of bacteria and food debris. When this plaque is not cleaned regularly and effectively, it reacts with the calcium and phosphate minerals in saliva and hardens over time and turns into dental stone. Tartar often appears just below or above the gum line, which can cause gingivitis. In addition, smoking and use of tobacco products are among the factors that accelerate the formation of tartar.

Scaling is an important procedure frequently used in dentistry. This procedure involves the removal of hardened plaque layers, i.e. tartar, that accumulate on the teeth and under the gum line, by a specialist dentist or dental hygienist. Especially dental stone cleaning Since dental stones pose an obstacle in the prevention and treatment of gum diseases, these stones must be cleaned regularly. Scaling also plays a critical role in slowing and preventing the progression of periodontal diseases.

How is Dental Stone Cleaning Done?

Scaling is generally performed with two main techniques: scaling and root planning. Scaling is a method used to remove tartar from tooth surfaces and below the gum line. During this procedure, the dentist may use a device called an ultrasonic scaler. The ultrasonic scaler effectively breaks and removes dental plaque by producing high-frequency vibrations. This device also continuously sprays water to reduce the heat generated during the cleaning process and wash the area being cleaned. Root planing process helps prevent plaque accumulation in the future by smoothing the surface of tooth roots. Small pits and roughnesses on the tooth root surfaces provide suitable areas for bacterial accumulation. With this process, the tooth roots are straightened and allow the gums to adhere to the teeth in a healthy way again. These procedures are usually performed under local anesthesia because they can be painful, especially in cases of advanced tartar accumulation and gum recession.

What are the symptoms of dental stone?

Dental tartar is a condition that can seriously affect oral health and manifests itself with various symptoms. The most common symptoms of tartar include redness and swelling of the gums. This is due to the irritation caused by tartar on the gums. Gums become sensitive and may bleed easily during brushing or flossing. Additionally, individuals with dental plaque may also experience bad breath; because dental tartar can increase bacterial accumulation and therefore bad breath. A visible symptom of tartar is the formation of hard yellowish or brown deposits at the base of or between the teeth. These deposits become more noticeable over time and cannot be removed by brushing alone. Additionally, tartar can cause gum recession, which can cause teeth to appear longer and expose tooth roots.

        Frequently Asked Questions

How Often Should Dental Stone Cleaning Be Repeated?

Tooth stone cleaning varies depending on the individual's oral health status and the rate of tartar formation. As a general rule, it is recommended that most adults have dental scaling at least twice a year, which means every six months. However, for people who are more prone to tartar formation or those who struggle with periodontal disease, these cleanings may be required more frequently. In some cases, the dentist may recommend quarterly cleanings. This frequency is determined by regular checks and evaluations by the dentist. The dentist recommends a personalized cleaning program, taking into account tartar formation, gum health and general oral hygiene.

Does it occur again after dental scaling?

Scaling effectively removes tartar, but this process does not completely prevent tartar from forming again. Tartar formation continues depending on oral hygiene and individual factors. Dental tartar occurs when the bacterial plaque layer that constantly forms in the mouth hardens over time. Therefore, it is very important to maintain regular oral care and hygiene practices after dental scaling. Regular tooth brushing, flossing and mouthwash slow down the formation of tartar by minimizing plaque formation. In addition, healthy eating habits and avoiding sugary and acidic foods are also important for dental health. However , since tartar buildup is inevitable, regular dentist visits and cleanings at the recommended frequency are vital to maintaining tooth and gum health.

Are Dental Floss and Interdental Brush Helpful?

Dental floss and interdental brushes are one of the most effective ways to maintain oral and dental health, and these tools are highly recommended for daily use by dental hygienists. Food particles and plaque remaining in places where the toothbrush cannot reach, especially between the teeth and at the gum line, are the main causes of tooth decay and gum diseases. Dental floss helps prevent tooth decay and periodontal disease by effectively removing plaque and food debris from these areas. Interdental brushes, on the other hand, are designed especially for individuals with wide interdental spaces and are extremely effective in cleaning plaque at depths that dental floss cannot reach. These tools are ideal for people with braces, bridges, and wide tooth gaps, and can significantly improve gum health when used regularly. The use of both cleaning tools is critical in reducing bad breath and preventing gingivitis. Dentists recommend flossing after every meal and cleaning with an interdental brush at least once a day. This routine keeps teeth and gums healthy and reduces the risk of tooth loss in the long run.

Is Dental Stone Harmful to Human Health?

When tartar accumulates uncontrollably in the mouth, it can cause adverse effects on general health as well as gum diseases. Tartar causes bacteria to accumulate, which causes inflammation of the gums, and these damage the gums over time. This condition can develop into a more serious gum disease known as periodontitis, which can lead to gums receding and ultimately tooth loss. Periodontal diseases are also linked to other systems in the body. For example, periodontitis has been shown to be associated with various systemic diseases such as heart diseases, diabetes, and respiratory infections . Therefore, regular scaling and maintaining oral hygiene not only improves the health of teeth and gums, but also supports overall health.

Does Dental Stone Cause Mouth Smell?

Tartar is one of the most common causes of bad breath. The rough surface of dental tartar provides an ideal surface for bacteria, food debris, and other organic materials to accumulate. These bacteria produce sulfur compounds, which cause bad breath. Bad breath can cause significant discomfort in social interactions and personal relationships and can negatively impact an individual's self-esteem. When dental scaling is performed, the bacterial load that causes bad odor decreases and bad breath improves significantly. However, in order to completely prevent bad breath, in addition to dental scaling, daily tooth brushing, dental floss and regular cleaning of the tongue with a tongue cleaner are also necessary. These cleaning routines minimize plaque buildup and help maintain oral health

        Dental Stone Cleaning Prices 2026

These prices are generally determined by the dentist's experience, the technology used in the clinic, geographical location and the specifications required by the procedure. Since scaling is a vital process for maintaining dental health and preventing gum diseases, it is important for many people to benefit from this service regularly. Scaling is a "scaling" and "root planing" process performed by the dentist. Scaling involves removing tartar from tooth surfaces and below the gum line, while root planing helps prevent future plaque buildup by straightening tooth roots. The duration and complexity of the procedure may vary depending on individual dental health status. Dental scaling prices in Turkey generally vary according to cities and even districts. Prices are generally higher in larger cities and more central locations. On average, dental scaling prices in 2025 vary between 400 TL and 1500 TL. Another factor that affects pricing is the additional services the clinic offers. For example, some clinics may perform a digital dental scan before the scaling procedure or provide a detailed oral health assessment after the procedure. Such additional services may increase the overall cost.
